End of Year Writing Reflection

My Origin: "Furthermore, Fey uses allusions to help tie together her opinions and the message she wants to come across to the reader. She effectively uses an allusion to the "Sesame Street film piece 'Over! Under! Through!'" (131) by allowing the simplicity of the children show's message to clarify her ideas. Fey urges her readers to realize that personal opinions are the only ones that truly matter, "Don't care if they like it," so find a way "Over! Under! [or] Through!" (131) to make it to your goal. Readers are enticed by the parallels between Fey's message and Sesame Street's teachings. Therefore, this allusion adds to the credibility of Fey's argument. The parallels found between the two sources also appeal to the logic of her readers as the two messages are both teaching them that a single task can be done a multitude of ways, the important thing is you find a way that will help you achieve your goals." My Three "Englishes"

Image
Although I do not speak multiple languages, I do speak many forms of English. I am a very involved person who is part of many different communities, and my English changes to fit the occasion and my audience. I am currently in the photography class at school, which teaches you how to take great photos, but also how to edit them to enhance different qualities. My different styles of English are comparable to the filters you can place on photos, each style enhances a different persona of my personality depending on what I want to showcase. One form of English I use in my everyday life is what I would call “formal” English, which is the style I revert to when I am speaking with adults or writing a paper for school. This English is what some people would consider as a “standard form” of English as it includes more advanced diction choices and more articulated grammar patterns. By using this formal style, I place a filter on myself that enhances...

I Want A New Earth

Image
I want a new Earth in which its elements such as the air and oceans are clean and pure. I want a new Earth where its oceans are not used as human trash cans and where animals are never found with plastic tied around their necks and limbs. I want a new Earth where the seafood that comes out of it is safe to consume and is not contaminated with poisonous chemicals that are released by the trash humans dump into it. I want a new Earth in which none of its residents must wear masks outside because the air is not clean enough to inhale. I want a new earth where in Earth's major cities, every day, from its skyscrapers, you can see for miles and your view is never compromised by smog. “ I want a [new Earth] who will take care of [its] physical needs,” (Brady 4). I want a new earth who will purify its waters, lands and air no matter how much humans litter and pollute them. I want a new Earth I do not have to think about cleaning or protecting because it is not damageable. I want a...

Goal: Modernize "All Men" to "All People

Image
Our country, wanting to build a democracy and giving power to the people, placed its ideals in The Declaration of Independence which states “All men are created equal” (Jefferson 236) and by the divine powers of God they are born with “certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” (Jefferson 236). When our founding fathers wrote and published this document in 1776, what they truly meant to say is that they believed that all the power should be in the hands of the white, wealthy men in society. Over the past 241 years, Americans have tried to modernize the connotation of “all men” to “all people”, but we are still falling short of that goal.            Giving black males the right to vote through the 15 th amendment was one way Americans have attempted to modernize our ideals. Theoretically, by giving African Americans the right to vote, we as a country acknowledged that they are equals i...
